Why do many drivers decide to get licenced with Wolverhampton City Council instead of another council?

·        There is no practical driving test

What are the steps and what do I need to get my Wolverhampton badge?

1.      At least 18 years old

2.      Full UK driving license for at least 12 months

3.      DVLA licence check

4.      Driver medical which you can book for £40 with Green Light Medics

5.      DBS certificate

6.      Proof of Right to Work

7.      One day Private Hire Driver Training Programme/Assessment Course

 

How long does it take?

It is supposed to take about a month for you to get your badge, however, the reality is that it can actually take a few months.

·        DBS certificate may take upto 3 months to come back

·        Once you have applied with all of your documents, it can take up to 3 months for the council to approve you

·        You need to request your full medical records from your GP which can take up to 28 days. Once you have that you can book with Green Light Medics and be seen the same day to get your medical done for only £40

·        For the one day Training and Assessment course, it can take a few weeks to hear back from them about when you will get an appointment. Once you hear back from them, it can take another month to get an appointment.

 

DVLA licence check

·        This is done at the same time as you apply for you DBS

 

Complete a one day training and assessment course

·        Lasts for approximately 6 hours

·        It covers a range of topics including safeguarding children, customer safety, disability awareness and road safety

·        Includes a multiple choice test following the training with a 75% pass mark

·        Can be booked via the Wolverhampton city council website under the Private Hire Driver Training Programme/ Assessment course

·        You need to bring your driving licence card, proof of your national insurance number and a copy of your booking email

 

Completed medical certificate.

·        You can book your medical with Green Light Medics.

·        TOP TIP

·        Wolverhampton Council have included a new section on their medical certificate stating that the doctor must have access to the driver’s full medical records before they can complete their examination.

·        You need to request your full medical records from your GP surgery by speaking to the receptionist and asking them to provide you with the Summary of the Medical Records. They may ask you to request this by emailing them, and it may take up to 28 days for them to provide you with the Summary of the Medical Records.

·        We recommend requesting the Summary of the Medical Records early and then booking with our doctors who can usually see you the same day.

 

Full enhanced DBS (disclosure barring service) certificate for the position of ‘’other workforce – Taxi licensing’’ dated within the last 3 months, or be enrolled on the DBS update service.

·        If you do not have a DBS certificate, you can get one via TaxiPlus Wolverhampton 

·        Once you have got your DBS certificate, you must subscribe for the DBS Update Service

·        It can take anywhere from 2-3 weeks to even 2-3 months to receive your DBS certificate

 

 

Proof of Right to Work

·        You have find the Right to Work Document Assessment form here

·        Email your completed form to driver.lic@wolverhampton.gov.uk and quote your WTP reference

 

At the time you apply for your license, your vehicle must be no more than 11 years 6 months old.

 

You must be able to provide your vehicle V5 document, vehicle insurance certificate and valid MOT
